Hydroxyproline is a major component of the protein collagen and plays a key role in the stability of the collagen triple helix. It can be used as an indicator to determine the amount of collagen. Increased hydroxyproline levels in the urine and/or serum are normally associated with degradation of connective tissue. Vitamin C deficiency decreases the conversion of proline to hydroxyproline, which leads to reduced collagen stability.","code":"P97","type":"DEFINITION","source":"NCI"}],"properties":[{"code":"P210","type":"CAS_Registry","value":"51-35-4"},{"code":"P368","type":"CHEBI_ID","value":"CHEBI:18095"},{"code":"P368","type":"CHEBI_ID","value":"CHEBI:18240"},{"code":"P350","type":"Chemical_Formula","value":"C5H9NO3"},{"code":"P322","type":"Contributing_Source","value":"FDA"},{"code":"P319","type":"FDA_UNII_Code","value":"RMB44WO89X"},{"code":"P366","type":"Legacy Concept Name","value":"Hydroxyproline"},{"code":"P175","type":"NSC Number","value":"46704"},{"code":"P106","type":"Semantic_Type","value":"Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein"},{"code":"P207","type":"UMLS_CUI","value":"C0020388"},{"code":"P355","type":"Unit","value":"g"},{"code":"P354","type":"USDA_ID","value":"517"}]}
